As a nurse and parent, I am well placed to develop and deliver training for practitioners who care for families of children with complex disabilities. It is incredibly rewarding seeing the impact our story has on professionals and the effect training can have on future practice. Many practitioners have read The Skies I’m Under, and commented about the impact it has had on their practice (link to page with Prof TSIU – see below).
Each teaching session I deliver is tailored to client experience, setting and learning objectives. The training can be stand alone or part of a larger module of work. It is relevant for those working within education, health and social care, whether they are still undergoing training or have been in the job for years.
I aim to include our family’s story, anecdotes, current research, reflective practice, group work and discussion were possible. Each session is interactive, dynamic and memorable. I expect every learner to leave better informed with practical ways to improve their future practice.
Examples of training sessions include:
Families of children with complex disabilities: Life on the other side of the bed.
Effective communication with complex families
Pain in non-verbal children
