Resourcing Families
Born at the Right Time is passionate about supporting families through connecting them to their own story, each other, their wider community and the practitioners commissioned to support them.
Here are some things which you may find useful if you walk this beautiful, extraordinary and tricky way too. None of these are professional recommendations but rather some things the Parent Carers involved in Born at the Right Time have found useful.
The Skies We Are Under Podcast
We talk about how the weather is not always what we predicted or want. Rachel Wright has authentic, funny and sometimes sweary conversations with fellow parents about a different kind of parenthood. The podcast is for anyone trying to get from one end of the week to the other, whilst bridging the gap between the life they expected and the one they are living. It is available here or wherever you get your podcasts.
Parents Workshops & Training
Check out our current range of workshops and parent/carer events below or email to book Rachel for your Parent Carer event.
Books
‘The Skies I’m Under: the rain and shine of parenting a child with complex needs’ obviously we would recommend this but you could also check out:
- The Cracks that let the Light In by Jess Moxham
- Beautiful Lives by Stephen Unwin
- Special by Melanie Dimmitt
- Day to Day by Dr Joanna Griffin
- Tender by Penny Wincer
- Blue Sky July by Nia Wyn
- Love, Learning Disabilities and Pockets of Brilliance by Sara Ryan
Postural Care
Born at the Right Time got its passion for postural care through Simple Stuff Works. Collaboratively we have produced training for practitioners, the workforce and families, as we both believe those providing hands on care are at the centre of excellence in postural care.
You can find out more here.
Don't Call Me Mum/Dad
Don’t Call Me Mum is about humanising our conversations and centring people as a first step in #bridgingthegap between professionals and parents. It is founded on mutual respect and asks practitioners to demonstrate their passion for working co-productively with parents by simply using the parent’s name.

Harry's Pals
Harry Pals is a charity which provides funding for counselling and respite breaks for the whole family.
NAC
Nurturing affective care (NAC) is a resource for people supporting those with profound disabilities. It focuses on emotional well-being and reducing trauma.
The ‘how to’ guides you will find on the NAC website are intended to highlight the value of what is so often being done intuitively by family and to provide explicit guidance to those who may be newer to care or education.
The Affinity Hub
Affinity Hub is a fantastic resource focused on parent carer well-being with articles, and active social media and emotional support (including counselling).
