Masterclass in Parent Carer Trauma

This powerful and timely course explores the trauma experienced by parent carers. Drawing on the latest research and the expertise of professionals with lived experience, this course offers practical, responsive strategies for professionals working across health, education, and social care.

Parent carers are often navigating extreme and ongoing stress while advocating for their children and working alongside hard working practitioners within often fragmented and uncoordinated systems. This course helps to understand, recognise, and respond to that trauma with empathy, authority, and actionable care.

Lead Trainer, Founder/Director Rachel Wright

Rachel is a qualified nurse and unqualified mum of 3, parenting a son with complex disabilities. She’s the author of The Skies I’m Under, host of The Skies We’re Under Podcast and an award-winning blogger. Passionate about effective communication and collaborative working, she’s an engaging and humorous communicator who uses her own lived experience and professional skills to inject the heartbeat of people’s lives into training which improves service provision.

Joanna Holmes BSc (Hons) MSc MRCSLT

Jo used to work as a Speech and Language Therapist and in 2014 completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. It’s debatable, and a constant source of reflection, whether her training helped or hindered her in her life as a parent carer for a child with complex disabilities. Since 2020 she has shared her experiences of supporting her daughter’s communication through her blog and social media platforms Mummy vs AAC for which she won ‘The Anthony Hewson Make A Difference Award’ at the AAC Awards in 2023. She’s absolutely passionate about everyone having interactions and conversations where they feel valued and supported.
