As the parent of someone with complex disabilities I know that love isn’t enough. Love doesn’t give me more hands, patience or hours in the day. Love doesn’t make people listen or put more capacity into the system.
As a leader trying to change working with parent carers, hard work isn’t enough either. Last month marked 10 years since ‘The Skies I’m Under ‘ was published. I’ve lost count of the messages from parent carers and practitioners. A combination of – “me too” and “I had no idea.”
It is ten years of centring the family perspective in meaningful change. Reimagining the way systems and practitioners work and we have come so far.
In 2025 alone Born at the Right Time trained over 1750 people worldwide (US, Canada, Australia and South Africa to name a few). Resourced families and caused ripples of change. Our Bridging the Gap training in December included the following feedback:
“Thought-provoking, inspiring, and incredibly helpful.”
“Fantastic course – should be rolled out to all!”
“Engaging, insightful, and practical – I’ll apply this to my clinical practice.”
“Rachel’s delivery was heartfelt, relatable, and kept us engaged throughout.”
“Loved hearing the parent perspective – it makes a real difference.”
But good feedback isn’t enough, hard work and having an impact isn’t enough because we have bills to pay and mouths to feed and if there aren’t significant bookings in the next couple of months our 10th anniversary might mark the final year of trading for Born at the Right Time.
What we do is brilliant.
