Black and white image of a mother and baby face to faceAs the parent of someone with complex disabilities I know that love isn’t enough. Love doesn’t give me more hands, patience or hours in the day. Love doesn’t make people listen or put more capacity into the system.

As a leader trying to change working with parent carers, hard work isn’t enough either. Last month marked 10 years since ‘The Skies I’m Under ‘ was published. I’ve lost count of the messages from parent carers and practitioners. A combination of – “me too” and “I had no idea.”

It is ten years of centring the family perspective in meaningful change. Reimagining the way systems and practitioners work and we have come so far.

But good feedback isn’t enough, hard work and having an impact isn’t enough because we have bills to pay and mouths to feed and if there aren’t significant bookings in the next couple of months our 10th anniversary might mark the final year of trading for Born at the Right Time.
